Health and Safety for Schools in Southend

General

Under current legislation, Southend Borough Council has a duty to monitor all locally maintained schools to ensure that they comply with current Health and Safety legislation. The Advisory and Consultancy Team within HR & Communications seeks to discharge this duty, on behalf of the Council, via an annual monitoring form. The annual monitoring form is to be completed by all schools and returned to the Advisory and Consultancy Team.

The Team, also provide a full Health and Safety Service to schools who elect to “buy back” the service from the Council. The Service comprises the following:

Comprehensive Health and Safety Manual for Schools

Full Health and Safety Audit (3 yearly programme)

Health and Safety Advice Line

Accident Investigation Service

Assistance with Risk Assessments

Radiation Protection Advisory Service

Statutory requirement for schools holding radiation samples

Subsidised Health and Safety Training

Membership of CLEAPSS

Environmental Monitoring Equipment, including equipment to measure:

Noise, Light, Radiation, Temperature/Humidity, Airflow, Air Quality (Drager Tubes) and Electrical Appliance Testing
